Our Story

C’mon, you can say it…

OUR STORY

Muccigrosso Vineyards is a family-run endeavor, committed to producing small batches of high quality, handmade, fine wines that are designed to satisfy most everyone’s palate.

In the early 1980’s, owners Michael and Lynne Muccigrosso purchased a remote property located outside of Los Gatos, in the heart of the Santa Cruz Mountains. From the top of Bear Creek Road, the winery is physically located down a two and a half mile winding dirt driveway; but don’t bother coming to look for us, as we do not have a public tasting room. Shortly after moving into a geodesic dome on the property, Michael began to prepare several locations to dry farm Pinot Noir, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay.

Thanks to our local and loyal fan base, family and friends, support from fellow wineries and winemakers–as well as some good seasonal fortune and a foolhardy sense of adventure–we became a bonded winery in 2001. We have stayed true to our roots since that time, keeping our production limited so as to maintain a hands-on approach to our winemaking.

IN LOVING MEMORY

Lynne Muccigrosso

President

Lynne was the backbone and matriarch of Muccigrosso Vineyards from Day 1. She was the voice of reason, the gentle and optimistic gauge of progress, and the subtly-witted vineyard weathervane - for which she received the highest of honor: having the flagship wine named after her, starting with the first vintage of Lyn Zin in 2001. She spent countless hours with a close eye over the vineyards from her pottery studio, where she spent many a fine day throwing, firing, and inspiring others to share her love of this fine art. For 5 years Lynne courageously battled ovarian cancer, leaving us for greener pastures (or more likely, vineyards) in March of 2015. Forever she will be missed.

Jacob Kauffman

Winemaker

Jake was a tireless dreamer of enormous talent, who led us year after year to ever greater heights. This was no roller coaster ride, but a steady ascension, an elegant dance with the forces of nature, bureaucracy, industry and family. This learning process orchestrated by Jake was a study in consistency revered by all. The wines were outstanding from the get-go, but paled in comparison to his loyalty, devotion, strength and sense of humor. We were blessed with his presence and honored to have shared his dream. Since his passing in March of 2009, we have carried forward Jake’s magic touch, tasting wine and life with his discretion while celebrating his frank and simple good-heartedness.
